Photography Tips

The following tips may help the amateur photographer achieve better results.

  • Get a good 35mm reflex camera or at least a 1.3 Megapixel digital camera. 1.3 mp will allow you to have a high resolution (300dpi) 3" x 5" photo. Larger format digital cameras will produce larger photos. Remember to set your camera on the largest size digital file. If you do use a 35mm camera, use Kodak's digital CD service. Kodak's digital files are 300 dpi at 5" x 7" size.

  • Use a tripod.

  • A wide angle lens such as 28mm or more will allow you to get all of your equipment in view

  • Do not use a zoom lens, it will limit your depth of field with a 35mm camera. There is no bad effect with a digital camera zoom.

  • Use 100 ASA film for good reproduction quality with a 35mm, 400 or 800 ASA can be OK but lower resolution.

  • Use a 1 sec exposure for as small an aperture as possible with a 35mm. You must use a tripod for long exposures with either format.

  • Use a cable for shutter release

  • Keep very light areas out of view (lights, windows, white papers)

  • Check for trash & unnecessary items

  • Bracket exposures with 35mm film. You can see the digital exposure instantly.

  • Good luck. Your last exposure will be your best so always remember to continue shooting;)
